 Captain's Quarters Description

Captain Mark W. Peters

This cozy vintage three-bedroom home built in 1900, exudes a feeling of warmth to all guests and is located in a quiet neighborhood with full-time residents, allowing you to feel right at home. The home is named Captain's Quarters in memory of past owner, Riverboat Captain Mark W. Peters.  After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Mark returned to his native Lake City and piloted a paddle wheeler, The Hiawatha, on the Mississippi River.  He also and gave guided tours of Lake Pepin.  This is how the three bedrooms came to be named: The Mississippi, The Lake Pepin and The Hiawatha.  All of the rooms are furnished with antiques and vintage collectables.  In addition to the home having forced air heat and central air, the rooms have electric fireplaces and ceiling fans. The beds are comfortably covered with down alternative comforters and pillows.  Robes, towels, a shower mat and an extra blanket have been conveniently placed in each closet. The bathroom has a walk-in shower, pedestal sink and features a tub room with a free-standing vintage style soaking tub.  The kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator and ice maker, gas range, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, mixer, slow cooker and all utensils and cookware needed for making a meal and eating in.  The dining room has a round oak table and gas fireplace.  The living room features a 42-inch flat screen TV with cable, Blu Ray player and lots of movies.  Wi-Fi is also provided. The back deck offers a charcoal grill, table and chairs, and a small fire pit is located in the back yard.
I have owned the home for 30 years and what I love most about it is who I share it with and the memories that have been created.   I have been renting the home as a Vacation Guest Rental since 2014.  Captain's Quarters is licensed and inspected by the State of Minnesota.   I welcome mature nonsmoking adults. The home may be suitable for some children, depending on age.   Unfortunately, I am unable to accommodate pets.  I perfer to handle reservations by phone
rather then online. This allows for a more personal experience, assuring a comfortable stay for my guests.  A half down payment is required by check in advance with the balance due at check in.  This avoids any additional costs or booking fees for my guests.  The only added cost to your rental is state and local lodging taxes.  The nightly rental rates start at $100.00 and will vary depending on the season, day of the week and number of guests.  Check in is any time after 3 pm; check out is by 11 am.  An estimated time of arrival is requested which will allow me  to meet my guests at door, go through the house, answer any questions you may have, and ensure that you have everything you need for a comfortable stay.  E-mail for more information or call to make your reservation.  My goal at Captain's Quarters is for my guests to feel welcome, comfortable and at home.  My hope for everyone who stays is that when they leave they take a new memory to add to their life's story.
